Juan Gutiérrez Moreno (c.1780-1850) was an Spanish Doctor of Surgery. He served in the Hospital de la Caridad of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.[1]

Biography

Juan Gutiérrez Moreno was born in Ronda (Spain) son of Juan Gutiérrez and Juana Moreno. He was married to Lorenza Moxica López de Castilla.[2] Gutiérrez Moreno was the first Doctor of the Montevideo police.[3] In 1843, he participated in the defense of the city during the Great Siege of Montevideo.[4]

In 1830s, Juan Gutierrez Moreno performs several written works about rabies,[5] and smallpox, two epidemics that had a catastrophic effect in Buenos Aires and Montevideo.[6]
