Juan de Bolas originally Juan Lubolo (1662-?) was the first chief of the Jamaican Maroons. The English named two rivers and a mountain after him to commemorate his assistance in expelling the Spaniards from the island and capturing hostile maroons.[1]

The English also appointed him colonel of the Black Militia and offered him land.[2]

For his treachery, he was killed in an ambush by maroons.[1]
