Judith Anna Pronk (born 8 December 1973) is a female singer/DJ, and make-up artist. She is best known for being the lead singer/dancer of Dutch Eurodance group Alice DeeJay.
Early life
Pronk took up ballet when she was six. By age 18, Pronk was involved with the Dutch club scene, where she added vocalist and DJ duties to her resume.
Career
Musical career
Pronk cooperated with DJ Tempo and the team of Danski & Delmondo from the Vengaboys to realise the Alice DeeJay project, resulting in the international club smash "Better Off Alone". The dance tune was a hit across Europe, especially in the United Kingdom where it reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart. Her biggest success continued as four more tracks from the album followed, Who Needs Guitars Anyway?: "Back In My Life" (#4), "Will I Ever" (#7), "The Lonely One" (#16) and "Celebrate Our Love" (#17).
In the United States, "Better Off Alone" reached #3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play, #12 on the Rhythmic Top 40, and #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the spring of 2000. Although "Better Off Alone" and the album Who Needs Guitars Anyway did well in the US, the group was a one-hit wonder, even though follow-up single "Back In My Life" peaked at #27 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in the fall of 2000.
In 2002, the act made their final appearance together in a live concert in Utrecht. Plans for a second album were abandoned when Pronk left the group that year.
Pronk has stated in many interviews that she will never return as Alice Deejay. She declined an offer to appear on the 2013 track "Play Hard", which was eventually released using an instrumental version of "Better Off Alone".
Post-musical career
After Alice Deejay's demise, Pronk was a TV presenter on MTV and Nickelodeon. She later transitioned into being a make-up artist and beauty and fashion consultant.
In 2008, Pronk returned to television, appearing as a makeup stylist on the reality program Model in 1 Dag ("Model in 1 Day") on the Dutch channel NET 5. She founded a women's clothing and beauty company called Anna Vie in 2013.
She is married to the former Alice Deejay tour manager and has one child. In interviews, she stated that she has no plans to sing again or to return to Alice Deejay. The producers of Alice Deejay renewed the project in 2014 with a new singer.
