How was born in Devon but travelled to France where she eventually set up a workshop in Étaples. In 1905 two of her paintings were included in an overview of women painters with the remark Miss Beatrice How...gives us, most delightfully, the very sentiment of the country people she paints. These paintings In a Dutch Cottage and Le Repas were included in the 1905 book Women Painters of the World.[1] She never married and is remembered most today for her pastels of mothers with children.

How died in Hoddesdon.
