Julie Elliott (born 29 July 1963) is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunderland Central since 2010[1] and was re-elected in 2015 with 20,959 votes.[2]

Personal life

Elliott was born in Whitburn in Sunderland and educated at Seaham Northlea Comprehensive, and gained a degree in Government and Public Policy at Newcastle Polytechnic.[3][4]

Elliott has worked for the National Asthma Campaign and as a regional organiser for the GMB Trade Union, and raised four children.[3][4]

Political career

Elliott joined the Labour Party in 1984, and has held office at branch, constituency and regional level since then.[4]

Since her election in 2010, Elliott has served on the European Scrutiny Committee and the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee[5] and is Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Primary Care and Public Health.[4]

She is Parliamentary Private Secretary to Caroline Flint and in 2013 she was appointed as Shadow Minister for Climate Change.[4]
