July 2006 São Paulo violence

The July 2006 São Paulo violence were attacks in São Paulo, Brazil.The attack started on 12 July 2006 and lasted five days. Buses, banks and police stations were all under attacked and lead to the death of 150 people. It is believed that the First Command of the Capital was behind the attacks. Leaders of the First Command of the Capital where to be transferred from a Prison in São Paulo to avoid a riot on Mother's day. This however, lead to the larger riots in the city and revealed the governments inability to stop a riot effectively.

History

July 12, 2006 São Paulo was struck by riots threw out the city. The riots where said to have been caused by the First Command of Capital gang. The gang is the largest in São Paulo,and had become upset of the relocation of their leader from the prison. The First Command of Capital also known as PCC had planned 260 riots beforehand even with their leader in the prison, and the next was to happen on Mother's day. The riots showed how the government in São Paulo was not prepared for an all out assault against the city. The riots lasted five days killing 150 people. The São Paulo government was not only unprepared to handle a situation like this , but also refused to accept assistance from the larger government of Brazil.
