"Just Like Fire" is a song written and recorded by American singer Pink for the soundtrack to the 2016 film, Alice Through the Looking Glass. Pink co-wrote the song with Max Martin, Shellback, and Oscar Holter, who all serve as producers on the track.[1] The song was released to digital retailers through RCA Records on April 15, 2016 and was serviced to American adult pop radio through RCA and Walt Disney Records on April 18, 2016.[2][3]
Composition
"Just Like Fire" is a pop rock ballad with hip hop influences written by Pink, Max Martin, Shellback, and Oscar Holter. The trio was also responsible for the song's production.[4] The song has been praised for maintaning Pink's signature sound, but also covering new grown stylistically included a rap style breakdown.[5] Pink, in an interview with People, stated that her daughter, Willow Sage, was the inspiration for the track.[6] The song marks the first occasion that the singer has written an original song for a live action feature film.[5]
Release
Ahead of the track's April 15, 2016 premiere date, Pink uploaded a preview picture, suspected to be from the song's music video,[7] to her Instagram account. It featured the singer snarling at the camera while wearing a black lace outfit with a thorn-insipired black headpiece. The image was captioned "Let's do this #justlikefire".[7] The following day the song was released to digital retailers. Following the initial release, Pink topped the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart, which measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music.[4]
Commercial performance
"Just Like Fire" received 798 and 565 plays on contemporary hit radio and hot adult contemporary radio, respectively, on its first day of availability (April 15, 2016).[8] After the official add dates (April 19, 2016 for CHR and April 18, 2016 for Hot AC), "Just Like Fire" ranked as the most-added song at Hot AC radio with 62 Mediabase-monitored stations, more than double the amount of the second-most-added song.[9] The song resultantly debuted at 38 and 27, respectively, on the Billboard Pop Songs and Adult Pop Songs charts dated April 30, 2016.
Music video
The official video for "Just Like Fire" is set to be directed by Dave Meyers, and is expected to be released in early May, ahead of the US premiere of Alice Through the Looking Glass on May 27, 2016.[4]
