KALB-DT2 is the CBS-affiliated television station for Central Louisiana. It is a second digital subchannel of NBC affiliate KALB-TV owned by Gray Television. Over-the-air, the station broadcasts a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 35.2 (virtual channel 5.2 via PSIP) from a transmitter in Forest Hill. KALB-DT2 can also be seen on Suddenlink channel 2 (hence the on-air branding CBS 2) and in high definition on digital channel 715. Syndicated programming on the station includes Extra, America's Funniest Home Videos, Judge Alex, The Doctors, and The Real Housewives of Orange County among others. KALB-DT2 also shuffles CBS daytime programming by airing Let's Make a Deal at 9:00 AM local time (while other stations air the program at 2:00 PM) and airing The Doctors at 2:00.
There is no separate website for the CBS station. The station uses the KALB-TV call sign. Before CBS began broadcasting on KALB-DT2, viewers watched the network on cable from KLFY-TV in Lafayette, KNOE-TV in Monroe, or WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge.
On November 20, 2013, Hoak announced the sale of most of its stations, including KALB-TV (and thus KALB-DT2), to Gray Television.[1] The sale was completed on June 13.[2]
Newscasts
On weeknights, KALB-DT2 airs CBS 2 News at 5:30 resulting in the CBS Evening News being delayed until 6. This is unlike most affiliates in the Central Time Zone normally airing the broadcast at 5:30. The CBS station does not simulcast any local newscasts from the main channel. During the weather forecast segment, it features a live NOAA National Weather Service weather radar feed from a site on the south side of Alexandria International Airport. On-air, this is known as "Sky Warn 5 Live Doppler".
