Kallie Kriel

Kallie Kriel (C.M. Kriel), CEO of AfriForum. Kriel was born in Johannesburg and grew up in Pretoria where he matriculated at Hoërskool Pretoria-Noord. Kriel is married to Elana, an educational psychologist and they have four children.
Student years and education
Kriel was a student at the University of Pretoria (UP) between 1988 and 1992. He obtained a BA Degree in 1990. He also obtained a Higher Diploma in Education in 1991 and his Honours Degree in 1992. As a student Kriel served on the Student Representative Council in 1991/92.
In 1996 he completed his Master’s Degree in Political Geography at UP.
Career
After completing his studies he taught at Hoërskool Centurion for three years. After that he started his career at the trade union Solidarity. Kriel has been in service of the Solidarity Movement for the past 15 years. In 2005 he took the lead in the establishment of the civil rights organisation, AfriForum.[1]
Work at AfriForum
AfriForum is a non-profit organisation with more than 170 000 members and is responsible for a wide range of campaigns aimed at the protection of civil and minority rights.
Some of the most important activities Kriel has been involved in in the past few years, include the battle for the preservation of the name Pretoria,[2] the Julius Malema hate speech case[3] and local and international campaigns against sport quotas.[4]
