Kandukur or Kandukuru is a town in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and the manadl headquarters of Kandukur mandal in Kandukur revenue division.[3]

Geography

Kandukuru (earlier known as Skandapuri) is located at 15°12′59″N 79°54′15″E / 15.2165°N 79.9042°E / 15.2165; 79.9042.[4] It has an average elevation of 13 metres (43 ft). kandukur road

Telugu is the official languages of the state of Andhra Pradesh and is spoken very commonly in Kandukuru.

Demographics

As of 2014 India census,[5] Kandukur had a population of 1,85,120. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kandukur has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 55%. In Kandukuru, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Assembly constituency

Kandukuru is an assembly constituency in Praksam District, Andhra Pradesh. There were 1,76,773 registered voters in Kandukuru constituency for the 1999 elections. Kandukuru is part of "Nellore" parliament constituency.

Politics in kandukur majorly ran between two big families namely 'DIVI' and 'MANUGUNTA'.

The major development and success in kandukur till now was mainly done by Divi. Venkata Subbaiah Naidu (Late Ex-Municipal chairman). Divi Lingaiah naidu garu also contributed in the development of tha mandal. Also, Dr.Divi Sivaram garu (Ex-MLA) is a well educated holding MBBS degree and a well known person to all , as his father is one of the famous persons of A.P Mr. Divi Kondaiah chowdary, who was the first member of legislative assembly (Speaker) and laid the foundations for the developmant of kandukur . He worked even as a minister and also in a most respectable position in assembly as a speaker of assembly.He too elected as mla for couple of times, his son Dr .Divi sivaram in his tenure of 10 years changed the entire town to a well popular constituency in A.P , with his assistance two engineering colleges wer established in his tenure namely prakasham engg. college and malineni lakshmaiah engg. college , both now playing a key role in providing awesome education in the constituency. Mr. Mahidhar Reddy also contributed his best, by completing ramatheertham project which provides drinking water to kandukur municipality area.

The town is very well connected by Road to all the major Cities(Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, Chennai) and towns in Andhra Pradesh.[6] The nearest Railway stations is "Singarayakonda" (SKM). However the nearest Major Railway station is "Ongole"(OGL). Ongole is District Headquarters. The nearest domestic Airport is at Vijayawada at a distance of 213 km. Renigunta Airport is at 230 km Distance. For International Travel the Nearest airport is in Chennai(Meenabakkam Airport) at a distance of 314 km.
