Kanwal Ameen (Urdu : كنول امين) is professor and Chairperson, Department of Information Management at University of the Punjab.[1] It is the oldest seat of learning in Asia in the discipline of library and information studies.[2]
She is prolific researcher in the field of library and information science, passionate teacher and renowned personality in the field of library and information management. Her visionary leadership and focused efforts has played a vital role in the enrichment of the Department, discipline, its education, research and image of the profession.[3] She is also Chair of Doctoral Program Coordination Committee of the University of the Punjab, Lahore.[4]
Education and career
Ameen started her professional career as Librarian in 1985 in Department of Philosophy after Diploma in Library Science from the University of the Punjab (PU) and did Masters in 1986. She served there for about eight years and travelled to Hague, Netherlands for three months diploma in library management from Hague School of Library and Information Science.[5]
Ameen's career in academics started as lecturer in 1993 from the University of the Punjab, Lahore. She travelled to United States of America in 2000 as Fulbright pre-doctoral scholar at University of Texas at Austin. She became assistant professor in 2004. University of the Punjab awarded her PhD in 2005 on her thesis, "Philosophy and Framework of Collection Management and Its Application in University Libraries in Pakistan: An Appraisal". Ameen was selected as professor in 2008 and did post-doctorate as Fulbright visiting scholar and researcher at University of Missouri, Columbia in 2010. Ameen took over charge as chairperson of the then Department of Library and Information Science. She got it renamed as Department of Information Management. She switched her job as professor to tenure track system on 2013.[6]

Teaching perspective
Her teaching interests are in the areas of personality development, information services, qualitative research, personal information management, and marketing of information services. Ameen has extensive supervisory experience in thesis, student's research projects, and assignments from masters to doctoral level.[7]
Research perspective
Ameen has authored 100 publications including research papers, conference proceedings in single as well as in co-authorship in her teaching interest areas. She has edited two books,[8] authored two books,[9][10] chapters in few books, and some book reviews. She is member editorial advisory board of Journal of Knowledge and Communication Management,[11] and chief editor Pakistan Journal of Information Management and Libraries.[12] She has been a member of the research team at information experience laboratory, University of Missouri, Columbia in research project on Missouri Digital Heritage Library website evaluation.[13]

Ameen has represented Pakistan on various international professional forums in many countries. She has presented research papers in notable professional conferences in different geographical regions[14]
Guest speaker
She delivers guest lectures and speeches at numerous events organized by various professional bodies and organizations in United States, Japan, Germany, and India. She has served as member organizing committees of international conferences held in Pakistan, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and Estonia.[15]
Community assignments
Ameen has served the academic community in different capacities. Currently she is convener of website redesigning committee of the University of the Punjab. She is member of selection committees in various public and private sector institutions and organizations. She is member of different administrative committees of the University.[16]

Ameen has affiliations with and various bodies as member: Council of Social Sciences (COSS) Pakistan, the Defence Club, Lahore as member, Pakistan Library Association (PLA) as life member and Punjab University Library and Information Science Alumni Association (PULISAA) as founding member and patron.[17][18]

Honour and awards
National
Higher Education Commission of Pakistan awarded scholarships for presnting papers at international conferences. Pakistan Library Association conferred Life Time Achievement Award, 2009 upon Dr. Ameen. Higher Education Commission of Pakistan presented the Best Teacher Award for Kanwal Ameen in 2010.[20][21]
International
Dr. Ameen has different honours and awards from other countries also. She has Asian library Leader's Award for Professional Excellence - 2013 from Satija Research Foundation for Library and Information Science (SRFLIS), Delhi, India,[22] Research fellowship as professor in 2013 from Research Center for Knowledge Communities (RCKC), University of Tsukuba, Japan, Fulbright Post-Doctoral Research Award 2009-10, USA, Fulbright Pre-Doctoral Research Award 2000-01, USA, Fulbright Occasional Lecture Fund, 2010, USA, The Netherlands Library Development Project Scholarship in 1993, Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) award 2005 from Norway, and Goethe Institut Inter Nationes Grant 2003 from Germany.[23]
