According to the definition of metropolitan areas formerly used by the ROC government, Kaohsiung metropolitan area (高雄都會區) includes the following areas:

However, since the merger of Kaohsiung City and the former Kaohsiung County on December 25, 2010, this official definition of the metropolitan area has been abolished as obsolete.[1]
