Kaptagat
Kaptagat is a village near 40 kilometres east of Eldoret along the B54 Road in the Rift Valley Province, Kenya. It is located near the edge of the Great Rift Valley just to the southeast of the village of Chepkorio.[1] Administratively, it is a location in Ainabkoi division of Uasin Gishu District. Its local authority is Wareng County Council and constituency is Ainabkoi Constituency. Although geographically, Kaptagat lies both on the Uasin Gishu district and Keiyo Districts. One of the nearest towns is Kimwarer, located 10 kilometers east of Kapatagat.[2]
Historically, Kaptagat was the Home of colonial landowners and still retains the colonial feel. Kaptagat Hotel and Kaptagat Preparatory school still bear the historical mark of the colonial era.
Kaptagat has a small hospital. It is also the site of the Great Rift Valley Sports Camp, training site of many Kenyan runners including Elijah Lagat, Moses Tanui[3] and Brimin Kipruto.[4] Kaptagat is also home to Chepkero Athletics Club, a club that caters for student athletes.
