Kartikeya Sharma (born May 14, 1981) is an Indian business executive and entrepreneur, particularly active in the media industry. He is the managing director of ITV Media network, an umbrella company that runs several television, print and online media in India. He also acts as the promoter for a number of hotels, and he is the owner of the Pro Wrestling League.

Personal life and education

Kartikeya Sharma was born on 14 May 1981,[1] to Venod Sharma, a former Central Minister of Government of India, and Shakti Rani Sharma.[2][3] Kartikeya Sharma received his Bachelor's degree in Business Management with honours from Oxford University.[4] Following his graduation from Oxford, Sharma received his Master of Business Administration degree from King's College London.[5] On 22 November 2011, Sharma got married to Aishwarya Sharma, the daughter of Haryana States Assembly's former speaker Kuldeep Sharma.[3]

Career

Following his graduation from King's College, Sharma was appointed Piccadily Group's managing director in 2004.[6] In 2007, Sharma launched ITV Media with a goal to create a nationwide TV channel.[7] Due to economic downturn in India, he targeted his efforts towards creating a network of regional TV channels through India News; as of 2015 India News operated five regional channels broadcasting across Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Jharkhand.[7]

Later on, Sharma acquired, through ITV Media, English language news channel NewsX.[2][8] By targeting younger audience, NewsX raised its market share from 1% to about 9%.[7] Subsequently, Sharma entered the print media with the acquisition of The Sunday Guardian, an English language Sunday newspaper, and Aaj Samaj, a Hindi language daily newspaper.[8][9][10] He has also been involved with News Wire Services, an Indian TV news wire service.[11]

Apart from his business in the media sector, Sharma is the promoter of the Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon and Hyatt Regency, Ludhiana, and Hilton Hotel in Delhi.[12] In the summer of 2015, Sharma set up Pro Sportify, a company that runs the Pro Wrestling League, in an effort to introduce professionalism to Indian sports.[13][14][15]
