Reception

The sitcom served as Dennis Padilla's biggest break on television after years of playing sidekick in the movies and on the defunct noontime show "Lunch Date". His pairing with the stunning Nanette Medved was also welcomed by television critics, who immediately compared "Kate en Boogie" to its spiritual predecessor, "John en Marsha" which had comedy greats Dolphy and Nida Blanca as lead stars.

Cancellation

The show was poised to run for another season in 1994 when its lead star Nanette Medved was involved in the infamous Manila Film Festival scam along with talent manager Lolit Solis and fellow actors Gabby Concepcion and Ruffa Gutierrez. Threatened by advertisers' boycott due to Medved's continued participation in the show, Viva and GMA Network decided to cancel the sitcom and replaced it with "Haybol Rambol", with Dennis Padilla still serving as lead star.
