KUHS was founded by the Englishman Aidan Warlow in 1998 under the name of Kathmandu University Preparatory School (KUPS). It is non-profit, and owned and operated by Kathmandu University.[2] The school was established in 1998 using a rented building in Dhulikhel, with 60 students. It has since added a new class level each year and in 2000 the school was moved to its own campus. The school has capacity for 450 students.
