Kaye Styles (Ghana, 8 November 1981) is a Belgian singer/songwriter, and TV personality with Ghanese roots. His birth name is Kwasi Gyasi,[1] and he came to Belgium when he was five years old.[2]
Career
First album
In 2004, he released his first single "Gimme the Mic"[3][4] from his first album "The True Defenition Of Styles"[5] this became a modest hit in Belgium. later that year he released "Sombody's Watchin Me"[6][7] ("Michael Jackson cover") and "Safe Sex"[8][9] With Laura Ramaekers.
Eurovision
In 2006 Styles entered the Belgian National selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Profile". He ended up 3rd in the quarter-finals and second in the semi finals.[10] Johnny Logan a member of the judges and 2 times Eurovision Song Contest winner was so impressed by the performance of Styles[11] that they later recorded a single together. The songs "Hold Me now"[12] and "I Love to party"[12][13] became top 10 hits in the Belgian hitparades. The songs were also featured on Styles's second "It Iz What It Iz"[14] and third album "Main Event",[13][15] they also performd live together at the 2006 Belgian MTV/TMF music awards at the Antwerp's Sport Palace before 20.000 people.[16] and the flemish "Tien om te zien" Concerts[17] with the song "Profile" Styles scored his[18] first Belgian top 10 hit.[19]
Prison Break
Later in 2006 Styles was asked by 20th Century Fox Television to create the title song for the Belgian version of the successful American television series Prison Break[20] The Song "Prison Break Anthem" became a top 10 hit in Belgium, a number 1 hit on the Flemish National Radio "Radio 2"[21][22] and was played in Germany,[23] Russia,[24][25] France,[26] Finland,[27] Estonia[28] and all over europe,[29] the videoclip was recorded in a real prison and was broadcast on all major Belgium Networks, "MTV Germany" and "Mtv Russia". the same year he was also nominated for 2 "TMF Awards" "Best Urban National" and "Best Male National"
In 2006 Styles was also asked for the opening of Christina Aguileras Benelux Tour[30]
Stanley's Route
In 2006, Styles also participated in the Belgian VT4 television program Stanley's Route which was a survival program for famous Belgian celebrities.[31][32] Other contestans where "Ex tv presenter Paul Codde", Stand up comedian Vitalski, Actrice Mieke Bouve Miss Belgium Joke Vandevelde, Foto model Joyce Van Nimmen, horse runner Jaak pijpen, world champion Judo Gella Vandecaveye, actor Geert Hunaerts ,Belgian boksing legend and later friend of Styles Freddy De Kerpel[33] and politica Damienne Anciaux. "Stanley's route" was recorded in Africa.
Silence - Death
As godfather for the project "EQUAL" Styles went together with 8 Belgian teenagers to South Africa to shoot a documentary about Aids Silence - Death in 2006, this documentary was broadcast on the Belgian teenage television channel "JIM"[34][35]
First Born
In 2008 Styles released his fourth album First Born[36][37] this album contained a feature with American superstar Akon and Konvict Music producer "Tariq-L"[38] called "Shawty"[39] the album itself is produced by German and American Producers like "Dvo De Silva"[40] The President of the French Cognac house Hennessy specially flew over to be present at the Release Party of First Born[41]
"Freedom"
In 2009 Styles recorded a single with Frank Ti-Aya or Dj F.R.A.N.K. one of the producers of the World hits "Summerjam"[42] and "Candy on the Dancefloor"[43] called "Freedom"[44] The videoclip[45] was recorded in "Marbella" Spain[46] "Freedom" became a number 1 hit in Belgium.[44]
"Ching Choing"
In 2011 Styles recorded a single with Michael Calfan and Bob Sinclar called "Ching Choing",[47] this was released by Bob Sinclar's record label Bob Sinclar Digital[48] & Yellow Productions.[49][50] the single was distributed in France and Italy.[51]
"Is It Love"
In 2011, Styles recorded a song with Romanian singer Celia, "Is It Love", and the Romanian producer Costi Ioniță. The videoclip was recorded in Ukraine by "Alan Badoev"[52] and had a cost of 100.000 € it would be the most expensive videoclip ever to come out of Eastern Europe. the song became a modest hit[53][54] in Romania and Bulgaria.
