Keiichi Itakura
Keiichi Itakura (February 18, 1942 -- ) is a Professor at City of Hope Medical Center.
Itakura was born in Tokyo, and obtained a PhD in Organic Chemistry there.[1]
In 1975, Itakura joined City of Hope. He was part of a team of scientists including Arthur Riggs who invented recombinant DNA technology. Specifically, Itakura synthesized the gene for somatostatin and inserted it into E. Coli. This was the first demonstration of a foreign gene inserted into E. Coli.[2]
