Kemono ( beast) is a type of japanese art and style on which characters shows some clear animal features while they act human. It's commonly used on paintings, fanart, manga, anime and videogames. It should never be confused with the term Furry (a subculture interested in fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics, originated in the United States), though the two have substantial similarities and overlap in themes.

This anthropomorphic characters of the Kemono genre are usually named Jūjin (Japanese 獣人 or じゅうじん "anthropomorphic"; other way to read these kanjis are kemonobito or "beast-people"). Their unique designs changes depending on the artist, from anthropomorphic animals to combinations of popular characters with animal features that can be considered attractive or cute, like ears or tails. Most of the characters from this genre shows an human personality, it's pretty strange to see them acting as their animal counterparts. They are always shown acting and living the same way a normal human would in their same period or social environment: they speak normally, live in normal homes, eat normal food, etc. The difference between kemonos and normal human beings are little to none.
