Kennedi Edney (born August 14, 1998) is an American artistic gymnast. She is the daughter of UCLA Bruins basketball player, Tyus Edney.[2]
Career
Edney has competed Level 10 for the majority of her gymnastics career but qualified to Junior International Elite for a brief spell during the 2013 season. She moved up to Level 10 for the 2012 season and qualified to the 2012 Nastia Liukin Cup. She finished 27th in a field of 29 gymnasts; scoring 35.500.[3] She finished sixth at Regionals[4] and third at States and then was 17th at J.O. Nationals.
Edney placed 33rd in the all-around at the 2013 Secret U.S. Classic, not advancing to Nationals.[5] In 2014, she was crowned J.O. National Champion.[6] For the 2014 season high scores, she was ranked 1st nationally on vault[7] and bars[8] and was sixth in the all-around.[9] She announced her commitment to LSU on March 13, 2014.[10]
In 2015, Edney was ranked #1 nationally on vault[11] and fourth in the all-around.[12] She was J.O. National champion for the Senior B division; defending her title.[13]
Personal life
Kennedi Edney was born on August 14, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, to parents Tyus and Shewan Edney. She has one sister, Kolbi-Rae. She currently attends Chino Hills High School, in her junior year. Following high school graduation, Edney will attend Louisiana State University and will compete for their gymnastics team.[14] Initially, Kennedi expressed interest in competing for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team, the alma mater of her father, but later decided against it.[15][16]
