Kenneth Newby

Kenneth Newby (born 1956) is a Canadian composer, performer and media artist. His art and research involve explorations in computational poetics, theorizing the role of encoded practices in new media, cultural encoding and the development of interactive and generative techniques for the composition, sonification, visualization, and spatialization of media performances and installations.

Newby was born in Victoria and is a member of the Computational Poetics research group with Aleksandra Dulic and Martin Gotfrit.

His music has been noted for its sophisticated use of computational techniques in combination with rich acoustic approaches that are influenced by his classical training and experience with improvised musics as well as his extended studies in Java and Bali during the 1980s.
