Kent is a coastal fishing village around the peninsular in the Western Area Rural District of Sierra Leone. Kent lies approximately thirty miles east of Freetown. Kent is known for its large beaches and its strong fishing community.
The population of Kent is estimated at 1,804 residens, and is ethnically diverse. The major industry in Kent is fishing, coal mining and tourism.
History
During the 17th and 18th centuries Kent was a center for slaves that were captured and ship to Banana islands and later sent on a ship to the Americas. Hundreds of freed African American and West Indian slaves]] settled in Kent when they arrived from Nova Scotia
