Kgosi Gaborone

Kgosi Gaborone of Batlokwa (1820–1932), was a Botswana chief, who gives his name to the modern capital city of Botswana, Gaborone.

He is believed to have been born around 1820. In 1887, he led the Batlokwa from Tshwene in the North West Province of South Africa to the Bechuanaland Protectorate where he settled at Moshaweng on the Notwane River.

In 1895, he had to surrender portions of land for the construction of Cecil Rhodes' new railway from Mafikeng to Bulawayo.

He died in 1932, at what is thought to be the age of 112. The British acquired the land he owned and created the Batlokwa Reserve.
