Khadka

"Khadka" is a common surname in Nepal. Khadkas come under the Chettri/ Kshtriya caste of Nepal.

Alternatively the Khadkas are a group/ clan in Nepal & India. They are strong believers in Hinduism ( Nearly 99% of their whole population are Hindus) . Khadkas are from Kshtriya and Magar cast. But only Chhetri Khadka are respected with title Kaji. Mostly Khadkas are from Chhetri caste but there are few Khadkas with Magar caste. Previously before Drabya Bikram Shah king of Gorkha, Khadkas used to be Kings of Kalikot and Gorkha, before that they used to be great warriors fighting near Sukantamaliyena near Sindhwali, their main purpose being to save the valley's kingdom from intruders. They used a traditional weapon called Khadag, which also formed the word "Khadka". People nowdays are rarely ever acknowledged about the fighters of Sukantamaliyena, which was related to Indian zones at a very ancient time. Therefore, today there some Khadka in Kalikote. According to different records there are 47 types of khadka with 12 different Gotra. Some Khadkas are also found in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, etc. There are many notable figures with the surname Khadka. E.g. Paras Khadka, Pranab Khadka etc.

Origin of name(caste)

There are many beliefs regarding where the name Khadka was derived. But the famous and most trust worthy believe is; Khadka caste was taken from Khadga. Khadga means a weapon just like a sword. Later the term khadga changes into Khadka. So Khadka means man with a sword. This saying is implemented in both Khadkas (Chhetri and Magar).

Subedi Khadka: Subedi Khadkas (Bhardwaj Gotra) are originated from Subeda village of Bajhang district, Nepal. Bijaya Singh Khadka, great grandson of Santosh Singh Khadka went to Virkot, Syangja and his son Pratap Singh Khadka went to Kaskikot, Kaski. His grandson Manohar Singh Khadka eventually became the King of Gorkha. After became the king of Ligligkot Dravya Shaha attacked to Gorkha at night and killed king's brother Jitjung Khadka in B.S.1616 . They broadcast the false news that they had already killed the Khadka king and hearing that, soldiers surrendered immediately. King flew to Nuwakot with his four sons Angad Singh Khadka, Nar Singh Khadka, Pahal Singh Khadka and Mano Singh Khadka. In short time after arriving at Betrawati, Nuwakot Manohar Singh Khadka Died There. His elder son Angad went to Gokarna, Kathmandu with his two sons Khadga Singh Khadka and Radu Singh Khadka. They both were killed by the king of Bhaktapur Jagat Prakash Malla in B.S.1722 charging political conspiracy. Khadga Dhwoj Khadka, only son of Khadga Singh Khadka had three sons : Harka Singh Khadka, Ghaman Singh Khadka and Narayan Singh Khadka. Predecessors of Harka Singh Khadka are now living at Pikhel (ChanguNarayan Municipality), Bhaktapur. Similarly predecessors of Ghaman Singh Khadka are currently living at Jitpur, Bhaktapur and predecessors of Narayan Singh Khadka are mostly living at Bhimsentar (Gagalphedi), Kathmandu and Damaitar, Lalitpur.

For example, if two people have number 15, they are brother or sisters in relation, if two have 14 and 15 then their relation is Uncle (kaka or Thulobuwa) and son (Bhatij)
