History

It was on 5th of September 1989, Khariar public school was established due to the efforts of the public and some visionaries like Shri Chitrabhanu Singh deo, Mahesh Gupta, Biswajit Padhi, etc. A management committee was formed to look after the school. Shri Chitrabhanu Singh deo and Biswajit Padhi were the first vice- president and the secretary of the school respectively. The management committee also included Mahesh Gupta, Gobind Agrawal, Kedar Saraff, etc.

It was due to the deep involvement and incessant efforts of the members of the management committee that a piece of land was allotted by the then collector Shri Ashit Kumar Tripathy. The building construction work started with the funds from Sri Subash Nayak, the then M.P. Kalahandi. Later on Late Shri Bikram Kesari Deo, the then M.P. Kalahandi, Shri Hitesh Bagartti M.L.A. Khariar and the Western Orissa Development Council (WODC) extended fianancial help for the extension of the school building.

Evolution

The evolution of the school remains incomplete without the mention of Late Shri Hari Hara Ratha, who joined the school as the principal soon after his superannuation as the government high school teacher in the year 2002. At that time the school was still in its infancy in terms of infrastructure, student strength, etc. But his indomitable spirit transformed this school into a full- fledged institution. It would not be out of place to term him the Alchemist for the school. he was not merely a principal, but the soul of the school.
