Kim Choon-mie
Kim Choon-Mie (born 14 February 1943) in (Seoul, South Korea) is a Korean academic and Japanologist, honored by the government of Japan for having "Contributed to the introduction of Japanese literature and the promotion of Japanese language education."[1]
Education
Kim Choon Mie graduated and received Ph.D in Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature from Korea University, Korea in 1984.[2]
Career
- 1984 – Professor of Japanese Literature, Korea University.[2]
- 2005 – President of the Research Center of Japanese Studies, Korea University.[2]
She is a former President of the Korean Institution of Japanology.[1]
She is a translator of Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore ( Umibe no kafuka).[2] According to her, Murakami opened doors for Japanese literature in postwar Korea, especially with the "386" generation – Koreans who were born in the ’60s, who were students in the ’80’s, and who were in their 30s in the ’90s.[3]
