Kim Yubin (Korean: 김유빈; born October 4, 1988), professionally known as Yubin, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actress . She is a member of the South Korean girl group Wonder Girls.
Biography
Yubin (유빈) was born in Gwangju, on October 4, 1988.[1] She attended JungAm Elementary School and Anyang High School for a while before moving to San Jose, California, where she studied at Leland High School. She currently attends Myongji University. She is fluent in Korean and English.
Career
Predebut
Prior to her debut with the Wonder Girls, Yubin was originally set to debut as a member of Five Girls under Good Entertainment, along with G.NA, After School's Uee, Secret’s Hyoseong and Spica's Yang Jiwon. However, the group disbanded shortly before their scheduled debut in 2007 due to Good Entertainment's financial troubles and the members all left for separate Korean entertainment companies.
Wonder Girls
In 2007, Yubin made her debut as new member of Wonder Girls on September 7, 2007 after the group release their comeback single "Tell Me". Yubin was introduced as the main rapper of the group replaced Hyuna.[2]
Although Yubin is known to most as just the rapper of the group, she occasionally also acts as an additional vocalist to the group, examples of which include "This Time" and "Wishing on a Star". Aside from performing with Wonder Girls, she has also been featured in several music videos including labelmate 2PM's debut music video, "10 Jeom Manjeome 10 Jeom" and Shinhwa's "Once in a Life Time". In addition, she has also been featured on several different artists' singles, like Shinhwa's Andy Lee, Lee Min-woo, Kim Bum-soo, and Chun G. It was also revealed that Yubin is interested in writing her own lyrics which she was able to showcase for the first time in Kim Bum-soo's song "Do You Know That?". Since then, she has also written her own raps on several other songs she has featured in and most recently, it was revealed that she had written the lyrics for "Girls Girls", "Me, In", and "Sweet Dreams" off Wonder Girls' second studio album Wonder World in 2011. Yubin wrote the song "Hey Boy" for Wonder Girls' mini album Wonder Party released on June 3, 2012.
Solo Activities
Acting
Yubin had also made a short cameo in MBC's popular sitcom, Here He Comes. She made her acting debut through OCN's new drama, The Virus, where she played the role of Lee Joo-yeong, a genius hacker and an IT specialist.
Television show
On August 17, 2015, it was confirmed that Yubin would join Unpretty Rapstar's second season. It is a South Korean music competition program that focuses on female rappers. During this season, she make numerous impact to many fan of female named "Girl Crush" , So her makeup and hairstyle is made issue in South Korea.[3]
