Biography

Gittings competed in a number of contests including her school contests: Miss Parkview Freshman Pageant and then she won the Miss Parkview Sophomore pageant. Her success continued and she won the schools Miss Junior title and was then a runner-up as a senior.[1]

In 2005, she placed 1st runner up in the 'Miss Georgia's Most Outstanding Teen' competition.[2] In 2009, she was crowned Miss Georgia USA.[3] Also in 2009, she entered the Miss USA pageant and made it into the last 15.[4]

From 7th grade, Gittings battled anorexia which began after being told by another child that she was 'fat and ugly'. Winning the Miss Parkview Sophomore was the changing point for her and she overcame the disease. In her adult life, Gittings started a non-profit organisation called 'A Hunger for the Right Weigh: Eating Disorder Awareness and Prevention'[1] with the aim to raise awareness of the eating disorder with middle and high school girls.[5]

Gittings has lived in Lilburn, Georgia,[4] since 1999[1] and is a graduate of Parkview High School. She is a classically trained pianist.[1] In 2009 she was studying towards a bachelor's degree in Biology and Speech communication at University of Georgia.[5] She is a cadet in the University of Georgia Air Force ROTC[4] and has hopes of being a physician in the United States Air Force someday.

Gittings is half-Korean, her father a retired Air Force veteran and her mother is from South Korea. She was born in Valdosta and has a younger sister, Kristin.[1]
