Khao Chamao (Thai: เขาชะเมา, pronounced [kʰǎw t͡ɕʰā.māw]) is a district (amphoe) of Rayong Province, eastern Thailand. The cycad Cycas chamaoensis is native to a mountain in this district.[1]

History

The minor district (King Amphoe) was split off from Klaeng district on May 31, 1993.[2]

Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15, 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts.[3] With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official .[4]

Climate

May to October- Most days have high rates of rainfall. The atmosphere is humid with average temperatures of 24-25 degrees Celsius November to February- clear skies, nicely cool. Average temperatures of 21-23 degrees March to April – Average temperatures of 28-29 degrees Fauna: Animals that can probably still be found in the park are elephant, gaur, serow, bear, wild pig, deer, pileated gibbon and banded langur.[5]

Tourist Attractions

KhaoChamao Waterfall–There is a good viewpoint to see many fish with the clear waterfall Par Sawan (Sawan Cliff)– On the way to the cliff, Here is a rain forest which consists of woods and Prong and has many kinds of wild animals. KlongPla-Gang Waterfall–The trial to the fallpasses through rich forest.Many orchids, ferns and medicinal plants can also be seen along the trail to the waterfall. Caves in The Khao Wong Area -Some of cave are Rakon cave, Phet cave and Chedi cave.

Tourist's restroom: There are toilets for tourists. Accommodation: Bungalows are also available. Camping site: National Park provides campground and restaurant for tourists. Parking: National Park provides parking lot for visitors. Food services: Restaurant is available in the Park. Visitor center: Visitor Center is open daily from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Bo Thong of Chonburi Province, Kaeng Hang Maeo of Chanthaburi Province, and Klaeng and Wang Chan of Rayong Province.

Administration

The district is subdivided into 4 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 21 villages (muban). There are no municipal (thesaban) area, and 4 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
