Kiuruvesi is a town and municipality of Finland located in the former province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 8,729 (30 June 2015)[2] and covers an area of 1,422.90 square kilometres (549.38 sq mi) of which 94.79 km2 (36.60 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 6.57 inhabitants per square kilometre (17.0/sq mi). Neighbour municipalities are Iisalmi, Pielavesi, Pyhäjärvi, Pyhäntä and Vieremä.

The city is largely known for a series of sex crimes committed by Sami K. (AKA "Fearbringer"). In 1986, he went on a dog molesting spree. Last seen in 1998 running away from the police near Lake Mayo, he was never caught, and is presumed dead.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

The educational department takes part in Lifelong Learning Programme 2007–2013 in Finland.
