Kiwi Blitz is a biweekly action comedy webcomic featuring teenagers attempting to fight crime in the pseudo-near future. Written and drawn by Mary Cagle since April 18, 2009, the webcomic features collaborative art from Grace Liu.

Plot

The main character of Kiwi Blitz is 14-year-old Steffi Frohlich, a hyperactive teenage girl with a mechanical leg. Under the pseudonym "Blitz", Steffi fights crime in a future New York City using her bird-shaped mecha, Kiwibot. Assisted by her best friend Benzene, who acts as mission control, and the robot girl 42, Steffi fights against a criminal syndicate while clashing with the local police.

Structure

The series is divided into "tracks", representing episodes or chapters and named after existing music tracks, interspersed with "sound bites" (sic.) flashback sequences and out-of-sequence strips and the occasional full-panel screen.

Current tracks, in order, are:

  1. Weapon of Choice
  2. Omen
  3. Sneakman
  4. Phony

Reception

Brian Cronin of Comic Book Resources described the set-up of Kiwi Blitz as a "strong concept" that should be able to sustain itself for a long time. Praising the "interesting" cast, Cronin noted that Cagle is willing to "mix things up" so that story doesn't become stale.[1] Lauren Davis of io9 listed Kiwi Blitz among her top ten superhero webcomics.[2]
