Klavier-Festival Ruhr

The Klavier-Festival Ruhr (also Klavierfestival Ruhr) is an Festival of Pianomusik, which take place each year from around beginning of May for three month in the area of the Ruhrarea in Germany. Organizer of the Festival is the Stiftung Klavier-Festival Ruhr, the art leader is Franz Xaver Ohnesorg. The festival was founded in 1988.

International known Pianist, but also newcomers, are playing for three month daily classical music an jazz at different locations. These locations are classical music halls like Konzerthaus Dortmund, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, some castle like Schloss Herten, some museums like Westphalian State Museum of Art and Cultural History but also some unconventional sites like World Heritage Site Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex or Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord. The festival is sponsored by several local based Industrial companies. The festival organizes around 80 concerts, and has a budget of roughly one million Euro p.a.. The festival has about 60.000 visitors yearly.
