James Gordon "Klepto" Holmes was the sixth head college football coach for the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks located in Arlington, Texas and he held that position for sixteen seasons, from 1935 until 1950. His career coaching record at UT Arlington was 71 wins, 66 losses, and 5 ties. This ranks him second at UT Arlington in total wins and seventh at UT Arlington in winning percentage.[1][2]

The school discontinued its football team after completion of the 1985 season.[3] He died of a heart attack in 1952.[4]
