Kniazhychi

Kniazhychi (Ukrainian: Княжичі; Russian: Княжичи; Polish: Kniażyci) is a village in the Kiev Oblast (province) of northern Ukraine.

History

The origins of the village can be traced long long ago to the times, when on the banks of the river Dnipro flourished ancient State of Rus with capital in Kyiv. The son of one of the ruling princes (kniazhych) had a piece of land with little palace, built on it. Sooner or later a little village was grown around the palace and during ages got its present name Kniazhychi.

In XVII century the village was peopled mostly by working Cossacks-Christians, who were ascribed to the Kyiv-Pecherskiy Monastery.
