Knightowl (Ramon Corona) is an American Chicano Rap artist that has recorded since 1993. He got his nickname "Knightowl" from local friends growing up, for the reason that he would only be seen in the night and rarely during the day. He got his fame when he recorded the hit single "Daddy Im in love with a gangsta " which had a mix for the streets and a mix for the radio. The song proved to be a hit, as it instantly became a staple of the West Coast gangsta rap scene, while Knightowl became the first gangster rapper ever to make a song about love. With this success came big labels knocking at his door. He decided to sign with Columbia Records, but quickly learned that the big record companies were making all the money and not the artists, so he decided to start his own record label by the name of "SAWED OFF RECORDS." With his own label, he had the artistic freedom to do whatever he wanted. In 1994, Eazy-E, founder of Ruthless Records and member of NWA was going to sign Mr. Knightowl, DJ Mikeski and Lil One from South San Diego as a secret weapon against DeathRow Records, Suge Knight and Dr. Dre. Due to the sudden death of Eazy-E, this did not happen. Mr. Knightowl, one of the biggest names in Chicano rap, has worked with many prominent artists throughout his career: Daz Dillenger, Kid Frost, Eazy-E, Lil Rob and David Salas, to name a few. Mr.Knightowl raps in Caló (Chicano) and Spanglish. Although, English is the most prominent language in his raps. In 2000, Knightowl formed a duo with rapper "Lil' One" for the Hollow-point collaborative venture, which released "The Little & The Owl" album. He is considered one of the West Coast's top gangsta rappers. In 2004 he changed his name to Mr. Knightowl.[1]
