Kochi Diocese of the Church of South India
The Kochi Diocese is one of the twenty-four dioceses of the Church of South India (commonly referred as CSI, successor of the Church of England) covering the churches mainly under Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.
History
Kochi diocese was formed on 9 April 2015 after a special conference of the Church synod in Chennai.[1] Kochi diocese has been carved out of erstwhile North Kerala Diocese.
Extent
The Kochi diocese comprises Ernakulam, Thrissur districts, parts of Idukki and Palakkad districts and Mysore Church.
Notable CSI churches in Kochi Diocese
- St. Francis Church, Kochi
St. Francis Church, Kochi situated in Fort Kochi, originally built in 1503, is the oldest European church in India. The Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama's body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were removed to Lisbon.
- All Saints CSI Church, Thrissur
All Saints CSI church Thrissur was dedicated on 1 November 1842, by Anglican Missionaries.
- CSI Holy Trinity Church, Alwaye
C.S.I. Christ Church at Munnar which is a Scottish model church built by the British people in 1910 through the British east India company and Anglican missionaries.
