Koonibba is a locality in South Australia, west of Ceduna.
Koonibba is the site of an Aboriginal mission, founded in 1901. It was established by the Lutheran Church. In 1914, the Koonibba Children's Home was opened there. The main Aboriginal groups who lived on the mission were Wirangu, Mirning, and Kokatha.
In 1963, the mission was taken over by the South Australian Government, and then in 1975 it was transferred to an Aboriginal organisation.
Today, Koonibba remains the site of the Koonibba Aboriginal School, a government-run school. The Koonibba Football Club, formed in 1906, continues to the present day.
The Our Redeemer Lutheran Church from the former Koonibba Lutheran Mission survives and is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register.[8]
