Kottayam Chellappan is an Indian actor in Malayalam movies.[1] He was also a renowned stage actor,dancer and film actor who was very active in Malayalam films during the 60's and 70's.[2] He died on 10 August 2004. He was presented with an award by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in 1978

Personal life

He is born as the son of Kathakali exponent Champakkulam Paramu Pillai at Champakkulam in Alappuzha district. Chellappan on the directive from their Guru, settled in Kottayam in 1952 and set up the Bharatheeya Nritha Kalalayam, dedicated to the cause of classical dance and hence he adopted Kottayam as the prefix for his name, though he was born in Alappuzha. He is survived by wife Bhavaniyamma and three sons.[3]
