Kreis Hasenpoth

Kreis Hasenpoth (Russian: Газенпотский уезд) was one of the ten subdivisions of the Courland Governorate of the Russian Empire. Its capital was Aizpute (Hasenpoth). Kreis Hasenpoth was situated in the western part of the governorate (in present-day southwestern Latvia).

Demographics

At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Kreis Hasenpoth had a population of 53,209. Of these, 90.4% spoke Latvian, 5.4% German, 2.5% Yiddish, 1.0% Lithuanian, 0.4% Russian, 0.2% Polish and 0.1% Romani as their native language.[1]
