Krishnagar Collegiate School

Krishnagar Collegiate School is one of the oldest schools in West Bengal .

History

The school building was donated by Monomohun Ghose, a famous barrister and good friend of Dr. K D Ghose, father of Sri Aurobindo. The school is more than 170 years old.[1] It was established in 1846 in Krishnanagar, Nadia. It has classes from 1 to 12. The first principal of the school was Captain David Lester Richardson. At the beginning there were three more European and ten Indian teachers. Among those ten Indian teachers Ramtanu Lahiri and Madan Mohan Tarkalankar were very well known. Beni Madhab Das, teacher of Subhash Chandra Bose at Ravenshaw Collegiate School also taught here.This colonial school has produced many toppers in the 10th and 12th board exams.
