Kushal Das (pronunciation:[kuɕəl̪ d̪ɑːs̪] कुशल् दास्) is an Indian musician who plays Sitar and Surbahar. He is a grade A musician at All India Radio and Doordarshan. [1]

Early life

Kushal Das was born in Kolkata into a family of musicians. He started playing Sitar at the age of four.

Career

He took Sitar lessons first from his father, Sailen Das and then from his uncle, Santanu Das. Kushal's father was a renowned Esraj player and a disciple of Ravi Shankar. His uncle was a disciple of Ali Akbar Khan. Later Kushal Das took guidance from Professor Sanjoy Banerjee and Ajoy Sinha Roy. He took vocal lessons from Manas Chakraborty and Ramkrishna Basu.[2]

He discovered Madhu-palasi raaga, by combining Madhuvanti and Bhimpalasi raagas.

Kushal has played in major music festivals of India, like Tansen Music Conference, ITC Sangeet Sammelan.[3] He plays regularly on All India Radio concerts and has toured to Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Bangladesh.[4][5][6]
