László Ágoston (born 25 July 1986) baritone opera singer, musical manager (best known as the manager of Kayamar), founder of the Moltopera Company. Son of László T. Ágoston, writer.

Life

Early life

László Ágoston was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1986. His mother was a primary school teacher, his father is writer László T. Ágoston. He was interested in the stage from his childhood, earning success first in poetry recitals. In his teens he was awarded the Attila József-prize, Vörösmarty-medallion, Kalidoszkóp-prize and finally the highest amateur award, the Radnóti-diploma. In the Attila József competition he also entered the musical category and later chose the opera genre at the age of 18, although as an actor he participated in TV-shows and theater performances. His career had a promising start.

High schools

As he had no musical training before the age of 17 (beside attending to the marketing-PR and journalism faculty of Budapest College of Communication and Business) he behooved himself to serious preparations instantly. After four years of concentrated learning and some successes in smaller vocal competitions he got admission for the first try to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He earned good reputation in both institutions receiving the highest state granted scholarship the Fellowship granted by the Republic, winning 1st prize in the Conference of Scientific Students' Associations (TDK) and a special award in the National Conference of Scientific Students' Associations with his research in the field of advertising in music. (Later he held presentations in this topic in several conferences).[1] He is mentioned among the most successful students of the College on its homepage.[2]

In the Franz Liszt Academy of Music his maestro was Sándor Sólyom-Nagy in the Éva Marton-led voice department. He was elected president of the Student Union in his junior year when he introduced big changes in the student life of the university.[3] He was invited as a soloist to many graduation concerts including the one of Zoltán Kocsis-Holper or Csaba Tőri who later became conductor of Moltopera Company.

Management

After his graduation in the Franz Liszt Academy of Music he gathered the "best young musicians he knew"[4] and formed the Moltopera Company and started to manage a few of them personally. His client Marianna Sipos won the right to sing in the ARD International Music Competition,[5] Kayamar won 1st prize in T-mobile's composers' competition[6] and got in media's spotlight soon.

From 2011 to 2013 was secretary general of the Jeunesses Musicales Hungary, the Hungarian branch of the largest youth music NGO in the world.

Moltopera

After graduating in 2011 in the Franz Liszt Academy of Music he instantly founded Moltopera, a company of young opera singers aiming to make the genre of opera "understandable and likeable" again, even for young audiences.[7] Moltopera became known and popular very soon, even they 3rd performance ever has been given in the great hall of Palace of Arts in front of 400 renowned opera managers in the showcase of International Artist Managers' Association congress. After this occasion Moltopera received invitation to one of the largest European youth festivals, the Sziget Festival,[8] to the National Theater of Pécs.[9] and on the 3rd of November, 2012 they gave their first all night performance (Mozart's Magic flute) in the Festival Theater.[10] Moltopera's performances are mainly directed by him, László Ágoston in his interviews stands for traditional directions.[11]

Moltopera debuted in the Hungarian State Opera on 23 November 2014 with the Zsófi Geréb-directed The desert island and was very successful not only according to critics, but also according to the Opera House’s management. Hungarian State Opera has not only asked Moltopera to keep on performing The desert island during the next season, but also to present a new opera. The new premiere, The Hopping from the Seraglio, a children’s opera is directed by János Novák. It is a children’s version of the well-known opera of W. A. Mozart, The Abduction from the Seraglio. Although ’The Desert Island’ aims also on teenagers, the new premiere is for children between 6 and 10 years. It is directed by the Jászai Mari Award-laureate János Novák, head of Kolibri Theatre, and conducted by the Lantos Rezső-prize awarded Csaba Tőri. The cast, as always, will be composed from young singers between the age of 20 and 35 who will have to face some extraordinary challenges. [12]
