LADOL (Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base) is a large, private industrial special economic zone based on an island off the coast of Nigeria. It supports companies engaged in large-scale vessel fabrication and repairs. It also supports offshore oil and gas exploration and production. Strategically placed in Lagos Harbour, it provides a base for companies operating in and around West Africa. Its location can accommodate some of the largest vessels in the world. Its status as a special economic zone means goods are not subject to custom duty, other taxation, less bureaucracy and other government incentives.

History

LADOL has been developing the free zone for 15 years. A new shipyard, built by LADOL and Samsung Heavy Industries, was recently completed in the zone. Over US$450 million has been invested on what was previously undeveloped land.

Operations

The executive chairman is Nigerian Oladipo Jadesimi, who is an Oxford University graduate in Jurisprudence and a founding partner of Arthur Andersen Nigeria. The managing director is Amy Jadesimi, who has a Masters from Oxford University Medical School. The tenant companies within the zone are engaged in deep offshore logistics support for oil & gas, pipe coating, vessel repairs, rig repairs, vessel integration and fabrication, training, and offshore fabrication.

Economic status

LADOL Free Zone has been authorized by the Nigerian Export and Process Zones Authority. Its status as a special economic zone means goods are not subject to custom duty, other taxation, less bureaucracy and other government incentives. It has zero corporate taxes.

Awards

In December 2015, LADOL won the award for ‘Outstanding Free Zone Integrated Hub Capacity Building Firm for Deep Water Oil & Gas Exploration, Manufacturing and Engineering Services’ by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
