Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Technology for Women (LBSITW), Thiruvananthapuram, is the first engineering college for women in the state of Kerala on the Malabar Coast of southwestern India. This is the second engineering college managed by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, the other being LBS College of Engineering, Kasargod.
The institution was inaugurated on 30 Oct 2001. Approved by the AICTE and affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, LBSITW is a Government of Kerala undertaking.[1]

The college is situated in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city at Poojapura.
About LBSITW
LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, started functioning in 2001, is the first women engineering college in the state, managed by LBS Centre for Science and Technology(LBSCST), Thiruvananthapuram. LBSCST, the premier institution of computer training/consultancy,was established by the Government of Kerala in 1976. The Centre is administered by a governing body and an executive committee. The Honourable Chief Minister is the Chairman of the governing body and the honorable minister for Education is the Vice-Chairman. LBSITW is the only engineering college for women in the Government sector in the state of Kerala. The Institute offers B.Tech programs in Electronics and Communication, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology & Civil Engineering and M.Tech programs in Signal Processing and Computer Science and Engineering.
Courses and Curricula
LBSITW offers five B.Tech. courses in the streams of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Applied Electronics and Instrumentation (AE) and Civil Engineering, each with an intake of 60 regular students, except in Computer Science and Engineering, for which the intake is 120. The college is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and follows its curricula and syllabi. The College has recently started two M.Tech programs under the departments of Electronics and communication, and Computer Science and Engineering in 2012. Department of ECE is offering M.Tech in Signal Processing and Department of CSE is offering M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. The intake in both the streams is 24. The B.Tech. programmes in ECE and CSE are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

Career guidance and placement
The Placement cell of the college is working under the leadership of a Placement Officer supported by the faculty and student representatives. The Principal of the institution is the Chairman of this unit.
Communicative English and aptitude classes are conducted for students who are weak in communication. The students will be brought into the fold of the CGPU during their first year. Aptitude tests and group discussions are conducted to enable the students to improve their performance in competitive exams.
The placement cell has a seminar hall equipped with public address system, overhead projector, and computers. As a result of the work of the CGPU, 75% of students of each batch secure placements.
