Laguna Maquenque Wetlands, also the Palustrino Laguna Maquenque Wetlands or the Laguna Maquenque Palustrine Wetlands is a nature reserve, part of the Arenal Huetar Norte Conservation Area, in the northern part of Costa Rica near the small town of Sardinal, Sarapiqui in the province of Heredia. It has been included as part of the proposed Maquenque National Park.
The area includes the Maquenque Lagoon and various surrounding hills, forests consisting partly of wild almond trees, and two other lacustrine depressions. Endangered species in the area include the great green macaw, turkey’s tail, ocelots and the West Indian manatee.
