Lake Vistonida
Lake Vistonida (Greek: Λίμνη Βιστωνίδα, older form: Βιστωνίς, Bulgarian: Лагос, Буругьол Lagos or Burugyol, Turkish: Borugöl) is a lake in Porto Lagos, Xanthi regional unit, Greece. It is known from Greek Mythology.
Lake Vistonida encompasses a unique ecosystem and the local climate can be described as mid-Mediterranean. It hosts a variety of fauna: several types of fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds as well as flora.
In antiquity, Aristotle wrote that "most species of fishes are found in Lake Vistonida."[1]
