History
The Land Warfare Centre has its origins in the Battle School established at Barnard Castle in County Durham in 1941: it moved to Warminster in 1945[1] and was known as the School of Infantry until it was renamed the Land Warfare Centre in 1988.[2] All officers who are about to command a unit are required to attend training at the Land Warfare Centre prior to taking up their appointment. The site is also home to Headquarters Small Arms School Corps,[3] who moved to the barracks from Hythe in 1969,[4] and Headquarters Infantry, which was formed in 1996 and is responsible for the recruiting, manning and training policy of the Infantry.[5]
