Langar Houz

Langar Houz is a suburb of Hyderabad, located near Golconda. It is a major commercial center for some villages on that part of the city.

History

Langar means "a chain used to tether an elephant".[1] As per legends a golden langar was donated to a Muslim recluse by a Queen. Later this langar was cut into small pieces and distributed amongst various Muslim holy men. This is carried out every year on fifth day of Moharram as Langar Procession.[2]

Cantonment

There is a Military Hospital and a central school Kendriya Vidyalaya Golconda No.1 at Langar House. It has become a gateway to around 20 engineering colleges as the students stay in rented apartments or houses.
