Lanier County High School is a high school in Lakeland, Georgia, United States. The school is part of the Lanier County School District which serves Lanier County.[3]
LCHS serves grades 9-12.
Athletics
Lanier County High School is located in historic Lakeland, Georgia. It participates in most major sports, including football, baseball, and basketball. The 1992 men's track and field team and the 1955 men's basketball team won the GHSA State Championship. Lanier county is known for their basketball program having been dominant mostly in recent years. In 2009, the Bulldogs Malick Kone, Junior Gnonkonde, Teddy Somolo, and Emmanuel Ezoua found themselves deep in the state playoffs, deepest being the GHSA State Final Four in 2012 against Whitefield Academy. With all the talent and the addition of Anthony Ethridge the year before, the Bulldogs always seemed to come up short.
Baseball has been a big part of Lanier county sports as well, former players include Coach John White (also one of the most successful baseball coaches in the state of Georgia), Alex Lee, Grafton Kent, Chris Studstill, Ethan Mccrae, Josh Fender, Andrew Johnson, Derek White, BJ Lucky, Codey Freaky, Austin Cook, Jordan Patten, and many more standouts. Coming close in 2008, the Bulldogs had one of their most successful seasons as they crushed through the regular season on the way to a playoff run. Ryan White (son of Coach White) had one of the most dominant pitching performances against Schley County (Ellaville, GA) as he gave up one hit in 9 innings to seal a 2-1 victory in Game 2 of the series. Later in game 3, Josh Fender hit the game-winning "walk off" grand slam to seal the victory by a score of 24-5 in just 3 innings and send the bulldogs to the State Elite 8 for the second time in three years to face Landmark Christian School (Fairburn, GA). However the Bulldogs came up short against the private school, ending their season.
Football came to Lanier County in 1998 and is now under leadership of first year head coach Carl Parker (Lowndes HS/Valdosta, GA). However in 2006, the Bulldogs advanced to the playoffs for the first time in school history and would face Randolph-Clay HS. The head coach of the Bulldogs, Daniel "Coach Mac" MacFather, would leave Lanier County to coach the rival in following years. Notable Gridiron stars include Sylvester West, Demono Nelms, Greg Sealy, Devonte Flowers, Christopher Macutchin, Jeremy Ryan, Lance Davis, Domenick Calhoun, and Anthony Ethridge. In 2012, DE Junior Gnonkonde became the first Division 1 signee as he signed with the UNC-Chapel Hill Tar Heels. Lanier County's biggest football rival is considered by many to be the Clinch County Panthers (Homerville, GA) and the Atkinson County Rebels (Pearson, GA).
