Larry Bitcon was the 14th head football coach for the Illinois State Redbirds in Normal, Illinois and he held that position for seven seasons, from 1965 until 1971. His overall coaching record at ISU was 32 wins, 35 losses, and 2 ties. This ranks him fifth at ISU in terms of total wins and 11th at ISU in terms of winning percentage.
He was killed in a head-on automobile crash near Monmouth, Illinois on May 3, 1973. [1]

Lawrence E. "Bub" Bitcon (Larry) was born 20 Oct 1934 in Iowa, son of Rodney C. Bitcon and Bernice Lavern Leeper. He graduated from Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Iowa and received his college degree from Iowa State Teacher's College (University of Northern Iowa). When he was killed he was survived by his wife and four children, his parents, one brother.
